Trace International: Georgia ranks 29th in world in business corruption index

Georgia ranks 29th of 194 counties in a Business Bribery Risk Index 2021, while in 2020 the country ranked 28th in the list, Trace International reports.
The country risk score is calculated based on four domains:
- Business interactions with government
- Anti-bribery deterrence and enforcement
- Government and civil service transparency
- Capacity for civil society oversight (including role of media)
The Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) reports that the business corruption index in Georgia has deteriorated since 2017 by three points.

The lowest risk of corruption in business at the international level is in Denmark, while the highest risk was detected in North Korea.
The leading countries with the lowest business bribery risks are Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Canada.

The TRACE Matrix was originally developed in 2014 in collaboration with RAND Corporation. The data is annually updated by TRACE.
World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Anna Bjerde has stated that many reforms particularly in human capital development and formation of a more green and digitised recovery will be ‘very promising for Georgia in the years to come.’
For the first time Georgia was named among the top 20 European countries in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) Report 2020, announces Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat). Georgia ranked 31st globally out of 187 countries, with an overall score of 69. The overall score is a combination of a data coverage subscore of 62 and a data openness subscore of 74.
Transparency International Georgia (TI Georgia) says that the current situation regarding corruption in Georgia is characterized by ‘impressively low levels of petty corruption combined with near total impunity for high-level corruption’.
The 2020 TRACE Bribery Risk Matrix ranked Georgia in 28th of 194 counties in its annual bribery prevalence in business measurement.
A total of seven Georgian companies out of 18 nominated won awards for the Best Annual Report and Transparency Award (BARTA) earlier today. The annual award was launched in December 2019 as a joint project of the European Union and World Bank ‘Georgia Financial Inclusion and Accountability', in partnership with the National Reforms Support Foundation in accounting, Reporting and Auditing (RSF).
