The Georgian Defence Forces are leading the eighth edition of the Didgori 2021 drills, an inter-agency exercise aiming to develop coordination between state bodies in times of crisis.

Held in an expanded format compared to previous years' manoeuvres, the drills are designed to deal with scenarios including information warfare, misinformation and "hybrid threats", the defence ministry said.

Utilising the Virtual Battlespace Software programme - used by operators including the US Army and Marine Corps, the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence, and others - the GDF is conducting the exercise involving "strategic- and operational-level representatives" of all state agencies.

The ministry said spaces used for the digital components were equipped with "NATO-standard" hardware in a unified military centre. The expanded scope of the 2021 edition will lead to participants working in a field operation element, in addition to using the software.

Launched on Friday, the main element of the Didgori drills will run between November 8-12.
