Georgian fashion insiders are protesting against the October issue of ELLE Russia, which captured 25 different locations 'in Russia and in the former USSR' and presented the Russian occupied Georgian region of Abkhazia as a separate country.
ELLE Russia posted on its official Instagram page photos of the new issue with the title 'Friendship of Peoples'.
On the covers are girls from Ukraine, Georgia, Bashkiria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Yakutia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Dagestan, Belarus, Abkhazia and many, many other places. Within a few days we will publish all the covers of the new issue, stay tuned! Today we present to you Moldova", reads the post published by the magazine.
Editor-in-chief of Elle Russia Ekaterina Mukhina posted the cover of the Abkhazia issue on her personal Instagram page, and wrote that 'Abkhazia is the country of the soul'.
Georgian Fashion designer and owner of the label ANOUKI Anuki Areshidze commented on this post that Abkhazia is part of Georgia and not a country, to which Mukhina replied that 'the October issue is not about countries, yet about different cultures'.
Country of the soul - that's how locals themselves call their home. We prefer to trust these people and quote them", wrote Mukhina.
Reactions of Anuki Areshidze, founder and Creative Director of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tbilisi Sofia Tchkonia and Public Affairs and Communications at Coca-Cola Bottlers Georgia Nana Janjgava in social media.
Georgians have stormed the comments section of both posts, writing that Abkhazia is part of Georgia.
