Event ‘Gifting 100 Books’ to be held within Tbilisi – World Book Capital programme on Sept. 21

The Akaki Tsereteli State University Library will host an event called ‘Gifting 100 Books’ within Tbilisi – World Book Capital programme on September 21.

Library visitors will have an opportunity to receive books as gifts in parallel with the current exhibition of the best German-language publications”, says the project director of Tbilisi - World Book Capital 2021 Ninia Macharashvili.

A total of 100 Georgian translations of German literature will be placed on bookshelves in the A. Tsereteli State University Library so that their cover and title are not visible. Any visitor will be able to get involved in the activity. The main condition of participation is that a section of a randomly selected book should be read aloud to the public for 2-3 minutes, after which the selected book will be gifted to the reader.

The moderator of the event will be writer and translator David Gabunia.

Tbilisi – World Book Capital is a UNESCO programme implemented with the financial support of Tbilisi City Hall. The general sponsor of the project is the Bank of Georgia.

World Book Capital was launched by a UNESCO General Conference in 2001. The project promotes book culture worldwide and takes place in different cities every year.

The programme aims to encourage book culture among readers of all ages and promote the development of the library sectors and publishing industry.
