Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission has fined water and electricity supplier companies in the country for 'inaccurate accruals' set to the subscribers.

Georgian Water and Power, one of the leading water supplier companies in the South Caucasus, was fined 75,000 GEL (about $24,311/€20,705).

The subscribers complained that theGeorgian Water and Power received the meter readings not on a monthly basis, but at certain intervals, in the interval of several months and / or years, due to which the subscribers had to pay several months of bills.

In addition, the subscribers complained that the actual indications taken by the company in 2021 included the volumes of water consumed in 2020, which were calculated by the Georgian Water and Power with a new tariff and not with the tariff in force until January 1, 2021", says the GNERC.

A newly created electricity supplier in the capital city of Tbilisi, Telmico was fined also 75,000 GEL, while the electricity distribution company Telasi was fined 50,000 GEL (about $16,207/€13,808).

GNERC urges companies to strictly comply with their statutory obligations to prevent similar breaches. In case of recurrence of violations, the commission will again discuss the sanctions.
