Freestyle wrestler Geno Petriashvili is in the final of the men's 125 kg division at the ongoing Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo after scoring a string of wins on Thursday in the capital.
The 27-year-old was one of two Georgian athletes competing on the day, with the Last 16, quarterfinal and semifinal rounds scheduled for the category at the Makuhari Messe Hall arena.
Last year's European Championship-winning competitor - who was also named Freestyle Athlete of the Year by the United World Wrestling in 2016 and has earned multiple World Champion titles - scored three straight wins in the three rounds to gain a place in tomorrow's final.
Defeating Diaaeldin Kamal Gouda Abdelmottaleb of Egypt in the Last 16 fixture, Petriashvili then went on to score another win in the quarterfinal against Zhiwei Deng of China, and rounded off the day with a successful defeat of Amir Hossein of Iran in the semifinal encounter.
Thursday's fixture list also saw Avtandil Kentchadze defeated in the Last 16 of the 74 kg division in freestyle wrestling, conceding his match to Italy's Frank Chamizo Marquez.
Alongside Petriashvili, Elizbar Odikadze, another of Georgia's freestyle wrestlers, will also take to the mat on Friday, with an attempt to proceed from the Last 16 stage in the 97 kg division.
