Georgia exports 14% more blueberries in May-June 21 y/y

Georgia exported 376 tonnes of blueberries from May 1 to June 29, which is 14 per cent higher compared to the same period of 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection reports.
The earnings from exports amounted to $2.5 million, which is a 14 per cent increase compared to last year.
Georgian blueberries were mainly exported to:
- Russia – 363 tonnes
- United Arab Emirates – 8.3 tonnes
- Armenia – 2 tonnes
- Qatar – 1.5 tonnes
- Moldova – 0.9 tonnes
The export price of Georgian blueberries has increased by 10 per cent and is $6.5 per kilogram.
Georgian company Glenberry, which was created with the support of the state, has exported 20 tonnes of Georgian strawberries and blueberries to the USA this year.
Georgia is expecting to harvest about 80 tonnes of blueberries this year, announces the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.
Blueberry orchards will be planted on 6 hectares in Senaki, a town in Georgia’s Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, within the state-run project ‘Plant the Future’, aiming to stimulate the region’s agricultural industry.
Georgian blueberries will soon appear on the shelves of a top Dubai supermarket chain.
A new blueberry storage and processing enterprise, with a total investment of ₾2.3 million ($798,361/€787,383), has been launched in the western Georgian town of Khobi with the support of the Rural Development Agency.
Georgia exported 2,346 tonnes of blueberries worth $14.4 million and 3,635 tonnes of peaches worth $3.9 million between May 1 and July 5, the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia said on Friday.
