Georgian suspected of murdering woman in Greece turns out to be innocent

A 36-year-old Georgian detained in Greece in mid-May on suspicion of the murder of a young woman, turned out to be innocent, Greek media has reported today.

Greek media reports that the law enforcers brought charges against the husband of 20-year-old Caroline Crouch.

After eight hours of interrogation, Babis Anagnostopoulos, the husband of the young woman confessed that he killed his wife when she threatened to leave him and take their 11-month-old baby.

The offender admitted that he deceived law enforcers when he said that three people broke into their house for the purpose of robbery, who were looking for money and jewelry, beat his wife and strangled him, and that he was tied to a chair.

Babis Anagnostopoulos said he killed her wife and then staged a robbery scene.

The murder took place on May 11 in Glyka Nera, an Athens suburb.

The Georgian citizen was arrested on charges of robbery and murder of  the young woman, but later after the interrogation of Anagnostopoulos, it turned out that the Georgian man was innocent and was released.
