Three individuals have been detained for membership in the criminal underworld in Georgia and participation in criminal gatherings.
Two of the three detainees have a previous criminal record.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has reported that the individuals learnt about a criminal dispute between two businessmen in Kutaisi, western Georgia and decided to get involved without any request.
The ministry says that the detainees aimed to receive money from the businessmen if they resolved the dispute.
Membership in the criminal underworld and participation in criminal gatherings is punishable by seven to 10 years in prison.
Police have detained four individuals for kidnapping and financial extortion, reports the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). The MIA reports that the detained individuals, identified only as B.P., Z.A., Z.B., and I.D., abducted Tajik citizens who were involved in business activities in Georgia and physically injured them with the purpose of extorting money out of them.
Georgian criminal boss Mindia Lavasogly (Goradze) may be extradited to Georgia from Turkey as Georgia has already requested his extradition.
The Georgian Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor’s Office have detained 13 individuals in a joint operation for their membership in the criminal underworld, appealing to criminal bosses and illegal deprivation of liberty.

Police have detained 11 individuals for ‘membership in the criminal underworld’ in two cities Gori and Khashuri from Georgia’s Shida Kartli region earlier today. The Georgian Interior Ministry has not made a statement regarding the incident yet. The Georgian Interior Ministry reported that detainees ‘were regularly participating in criminal disputes with the instruction of so-called ‘thieves-in-law’ and were extorting cash and expensive cars from citizens.’
