The ruling Georgian Dream party will support the legislative initiative of opposition MPs from Citizens party Aleko Elisashvili and Levan Ioseliani on improving liability for driving and tightening related sanctions, announces Georgian Dream party chair Mamuka Mdinaradze.

This is an initiative that we must support. An initiative that serves a good purpose should be supported", Mdinaradze said.

Ioseliani, who is the author and initiator of the amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, presented the statistics of the number of people killed and injured in road accidents to members of parliament, and said that the country is facing 'a national tragedy'.

We must take measures to avoid such tragedies and decrease the existing statistics. We therefore believe that in the case of repeated drunk driving, the sanction must be tightened and administrative detention must be introduced. As practice has shown, drivers' obedience to the law cannot be ensured by paying fines alone", Ioseliani said at the plenary session of the parliament.
