National Archives to publish WW II memoirs, create online catalogue for Georgian cinema

National Archives of Georgia is working to release World War II memoirs of ordinary people from the country and create a bilingual online catalogue of Georgian cinema, with the two initiatives to be presented among its projects at the next convention of the International Centre for Archival Research (ICARUS) this week.
The archival venue said on Monday it was preparing a summary of its ongoing projects for the 26th Convention of the international body - set to run between Tuesday and Wednesday - dedicated to the collective memory of the war and the efforts to restore, safeguard and present the legacy of filmmaking in the country.
With the online convention opening for ICARUS member organisations to present their projects on Wednesday, the Tbilisi-based archive venue will introduce its projects World War II in Georgian Archives and Safeguarding the Georgian Cinema Legacy.
The former involves plans to "reveal the documents" in its vaults related to the conflict, creating a bilingual guidebook for the war's history, publishing memoirs of those who took part in the war effort and preparing scientific studies based on the archival material.
In the latter initiative, the National Archives is working to digitise and restore archival collections related to the rich history of the Georgian cinema, launch a bilingual online film catalogue reflecting the legacy, and build a new venue for storing film material.
These measures will be presented at the Convention of the international centre that has involved the National Archives since 2014. ICARUS itself works to facilitate "sharing of specific expertise and know-how" between archive venues, provide opportunities for finding funding schemes, and promote online content of members.
