Tbilisi State University, the oldest university of the South Caucasus region, has gained positions in the Best Global Universities Rankings of the U.S. News & World Report platform and is now placed 322nd out of over 1,500 educational institutions on the list.

The ranking, featuring universities from over 80 countries, measures 13 indicators of schools worldwide to present both a general classification and field-specific positions for them.

The Tbilisi-based institution, which marked its centenary in 2018, is now found listed 322nd, ahead of the likes of the University of Tartu in Estonia, Technical University of Berlin and University of Connecticut.

In addition, the TSU is ranked 40th within Best Global Universities in Asia, and 256th in physics teaching, by the online information outlet. The Georgian school is the only South Caucasus university to place within the top 1,500 of the list.

The U.S. News & World Report promotes its ranking as the "most comprehensive assessment of research universities worldwide". Beside universities the platform publishes college, graduate school and hospital rankings.
