Visitor centres in Georgia’s protected areas will be closed for 10 days starting tomorrow, says the Agency of Protected Areas.

The decision has been made to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

As of now Georgia has 25 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with 245 placed under quarantine [as they traveled abroad or had contact with infected individuals] and 58 others in hospitals due to suspicious symptoms.

Currently Georgia has 12 national parks.

The area of Georgia's protected territories will increase by 100,000 hectares in 2020, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia announced on February 19.
