Georgia has new ambassadors to Great Britain, Germany and Greece, Georgian Foreign Ministry reported earlier today.
Former ruling party MP Sophio Katsarava has been appointed as Georgia’s ambassador to Great Britain, former Defence Minister and head of Intelligence Service Levan Izoria - to Germany and former Deputy Foreign Minister David Dondua to Greece.
Katsarva left the ruling party and parliament in November 2019, shortly after the parliament rejected the ruling party proposed election bill.
Izoria resigned earlier this year, shortly after a scandal related to his brother.
However, he said that his appointment as Georgia’s ambassador to Germany was decided earlier than the video involving his brother went viral.
Head of the Georgian Intelligence Service and the Secretary of the National Security Council Levan Izoria has resigned, becoming the country’s new ambassador to Germany.
The US mission to OSCE has called upon for the “immediate release” of a well-known Georgian physician and president of the Association of Orthopedists and Traumatologists of Georgia, Vazha Gaprindashvili, who was abducted by occupation forces on November 9 and has been sentenced to pretrial detention for “deliberately crossing the border.”
Sophio Katsarava, the former chairperson of the foreign relations committee of the parliament of Georgia has resigned as MP. “Today I have made a very difficult decision, however, from my viewpoint, this is the only right decision”, she announced on Facebook.
The Russian Federation continues its military occupation and illegal militarisation of the Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), thus destabilising the situation in the entire region and violating the fundamental rights of the local population, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Dondua said.
Georgia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom Sophio Katsarava has presented her credentials to Queen Elizabeth II virtually. Katsarava is the first ambassador to present the credentials to Her Majesty by video link from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle.
Georgia’s Ambassador to Germany Levan Izoria on Friday said the Munich Security Conference would involve “high-level” meetings of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvil with officials and investors between Friday and Sunday.
