Illustrator and animation filmmaker Ana Chubinidze, recipient of prizes from international festivals for her debut work The Pocket Man, is at work adapting her recent animated book to a new film.

The young creative is again working with French-based Folimage studio to produce her second animation, titled Franzy's Soup-Kitchen, around a character of her book of the same title.

Previously delayed in its production, the work on the film is now under way again, with the Georgian director set to join her colleagues at the French studio this week to continue transforming the character and scenes of the book's plot into moving image.

We will now begin producing the film, which makes me really happy - I was so sad when the project was on hold and now I am really glad that this character will come to life", Chubinidze told a Rustavi 2 channel programme on Tuesday.

In the story the protagonist is Franzy, an alien culinarian producing food using unique plants on her planet, before visiting other locations to use vegetables discovered there for furthering the art of cooking.

The filmmaker said in her talk to the channel she was working on completing the storyboard for the project, which she called the "most important" element of production. Animation directors use storyboards to present a sequence of still images they intend to use for creating a film to animation professionals transforming them into video.

Released in Georgia by Virgam Virtual Publishers in 2015, Chubinidze's book featuring the story and the character can be viewed in digital format. Character art and physical objects created for the project - such as plants used by the protagonist - can also be seen on the creative's page on the Behance platform.

The director received prizes including Best Short Film and Special Mention at the Montreal International Children’s Film Festival for The Pocket Man in 2017.

The work was also distinguished with awards at the Countryside Animafest Cyprus and Sharjah International Children's Film Festival. The animation was co-produced by Folimage and Tbilisi-based Kvali XXI studio and supported by the Georgian National Film Centre.
