About 1.14 million Georgian resident visitors aged 15 years and older made on average 1.31 million trips on the territory of Georgia in the third quarter of 2020, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Geostat said that the number of visitors increased by 2.3% year-on-year.
In the reporting period the monthly average number of tourist visits of Georgian residents amounted to 663,300, which is 6.6% lower compared to the same period of 2019.
In the third quarter of 2020 38.6% of visits were carried out by visitors in the 31-50 age group, and 54.8% of visits were made by women.
The survey results show that 40.8% of visitors are residents of the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, followed by Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region (13.3 per cent) and Kvemo Kartli (11.6%).
In the third quarter of 2020, the largest purpose of visits (38.6%) was visiting friends/relatives.
The majority of the visits came form Tbilisi (average 262,900 visits per month) and Imereti region (212,700 visits per month).
In the reporting period the monthly average expenditure during the visits equalled 219.2 million GEL. This is 6.9% lower than in Q3 2019. As for the average expenditure per visit it decreased by 1.4% and equalled 167 GEL.
