Tbilisi City court has sentenced a man in absentia to one year in prison for threatening the son and daughter of current Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili back in 2018, when she was running for the presidency.
The convict is a serviceman who is now in Ukraine.
Zurabishvili, who was the ruling Georgian Dream party supported candidate in the 2018 presidential race, stated on November 12, 2018 that her family members received ‘threatening messages from former servicemen affiliated with the United National Movement opposition party.’
Zurabishvili said that her son Teimuraz Gorjestani and daughter Ketevan Gorjestani received messages and audio calls on 9,10 and 11 November of 2018.
Presidential candidate Salome Zurabishvili has addressed the Georgian army on Saint George’s Day today and stated that despite “various unworthy attempts” to divide the Georgian army, this will not happen and she, as the future commander in chief of the Georgian Armed Forces, will do her utmost to protect the interests of the army staff and to boost the country’s self-defence capabilities.
