Man sentenced in absentia for threatening President Zurabishvili’s family

Tbilisi City court has sentenced a man in absentia to one year in prison for threatening the son and daughter of current Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili back in 2018, when she was running for the presidency.

The convict is a serviceman who is now in Ukraine. 

Zurabishvili, who was the ruling Georgian Dream party supported candidate in the 2018 presidential race, stated on November 12, 2018 that her family members received ‘threatening messages from former servicemen affiliated with the United National Movement opposition party.’ 

Zurabishvili said that  her son Teimuraz Gorjestani and daughter Ketevan Gorjestani received messages and audio calls on 9,10 and 11 November of 2018.
