Fifty three minors have been poisoned in Georgia’s eastern city of Gori over the last 24 hours, out of which 26 are still undergoing treatment in the Children’s Medical Centre Iavnana. The reason of poisoning is unknown yet.
On Saturday and Sunday, 48 other patients with nausea, vomiting and stomach pain asked to be admitted to the Children’s Medical Centre Iavnana.
All the individuals with symptoms of poisoning are inhabitants of the Kombinati District, while the other new 53 patients live in different villages in Gori municipality, reports Rustavi 2.
Rustavi 2 also reports that 86 school students of Gori public school No.7 didn’t attend lessons today. School director Nodar Iarganashvili and the parents of the children said that they also have symptoms of poisoning.
Residents of Kombinati district think that the reason for the poisoning may be tap water, though an official statement published by the United Water Supply Company reads that the water meets high quality standards in Gori.
Water samples were taken by the company’s laboratory on several streets of Kombinati district. The area from which a large part of the city is supplied with water is protected in accordance with the safety standards. The main building and other perimeters are strictly controlled”, reads the statement.
