Fire destroys 15 shops at Eliava Market in Tbilisi

Fifteen shops have burnt down after a powerful fire in Didube district at Tbilisi’s Eliava Market late in the evening of September 28.
Several wood warehouses and other shops have burnt down as a result of the fire.

Head of Didube district Irma Zavradashvili said that about 1,000 square metres of the market burnt down.
There was a danger the fire would spread over a larger area, however thanks to the reaction of firefighters and rescuers the fire was extinguished in a timely manner. The owner of the Eliava Market said the burnt shops were insured… It is too early to talk about the causes of the fire”, said Zavradashvili.
No fatalities occurred as a result of the fire.
Over 70 firefighters and 14 firefighting machines gathered to extinguish the fire that suddenly broke out at the Lilo market on Thursday night. Investigation is underway to establish the reasons of the fire.

Fire rescue was called to a warehouse area in the Eliava Market, one of the largest multiprofile market zones in Tbilisi, as fire broke out to affect an area of about 1,500 square metres in the capital city on Monday.
