Georgian cargo turnover has increased in January-July 2020 despite the coronavirus pandemic, show data from the Ministry of Economy.
In the first seven months of this year cargo turnover amounted to 22.2 million tonnes which is 0.6 million tonnes more compared to the same period of last year.
However, cargo turnover increased mostly from road and railway transport.
In January-July, 6.3 million tonnes were transported by railway, while 15.8 million tonnes were transported by vehicles.
Because of the coronavirus flight restrictions, cargo turnover by civil aviation has decreased and amounted to 8.8 million tonnes while the number stood at 13.7 million tonnes last year.
However, the amount of processed cargo in Georgian seaports has increased in this period.
Ports and terminals handled 10.1 million tonnes of cargo in the first seven months of this year, which is 0.7 million tonnes more compared to the same period of last year.
