Eight new COVID-19 cases reported in Georgia, 108 active infections

Georgia's health authorities reported eight new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, with 108 active cases of infection in the country.
Of the eight new cases, five have been classified as "serious" or "critical". The new figure brings the total number of cases in Georgia, since the start of the pandemic in the spring, to 1018.
The updates also show 895 successful recoveries for patients and 15 fatal outcomes of the virus.
Authorities have also reported 41 citizens transported from abroad for treatment in Georgia.
Georgia has reported just two new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 1,006. 883 of the 1,006 patients have recovered, while 15 others have died. As of today 108 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. Georgia reported its first case of the coronavirus on February 26, 2020. Since then more than 156,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus inside the country. Georgia will open borders unconditionally for Germany, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia starting August.
Ten more Georgian soldiers have tested positive for the coronavirus in Afghanistan and have been transported home to Georgia by the German Air Force earlier today. Twenty-eight other Georgian soldiers in the NATO Resolute Support Mission tested positive for the virus on July 10. Eight of the 28 soldiers, who underwent treatment in Gori hospital of central Georgia, have already recovered. The Georgian Defence Ministry says that all the 38 soldiers belong to one cluster that an Afghan personnel was the source of the infection.
The Georgian parliament has allowed the government earlier today to impose movement, labour, migration, economic and other restrictions without the declaration of a state of emergency, that is, without the approval of the legislative body. A bill passed in May 2020 allowed the government to use the right only temporarily up until July 15, 2020. 76 MPs voted for the change and two went against it, with the United National Movement and the European Georgia opposition parties refusing to vote at all.
The Council of the European Union has updated the list of countries to which the travel restrictions should be gradually lifted and the list still includes Georgia. The criteria to determine third countries for which current travel restrictions should be lifted cover in particular the epidemiological situation and containment measures, including social distancing, as well as economic and social considerations.
Georgia has reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 infections on Sunday, with the number of active cases sitting at 114.
The inhabitants of Karajala and Karataklia villages in Gardabani municipality will undergo mandatory PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing for the coronavirus, as 23 inhabitants of the villages have tested positive for the virus over the last 24 hours.
Vendors at all open markets in Georgia will undergo mandatory PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing for the coronavirus in the coming days, as five employees of the open air Lilo Market in Tbilisi tested positive for the virus several days ago.
