In total 59 settlements, including 19 across the occupation line, will receive highland status in Georgia, which will benefit about 26,000 inhabitants with improved social conditions, announced Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia at today's government meeting.
The 59 settlements are located in Gori, Dusheti, Tianeti, Aspindza and Dmanisi municipalities of Georgia.
In addition, Gomi Mountain in the Guria region of Georgia will also receive the status of settlement and later of highland settlement.
26,000 citizens will be added to the 246,000 citizens who already enjoy this status. I would like to emphasise that in addition to Dusheti and Gori municipalities there will be 19 settlements along the occupation line, which is also important. Another old issue is that Gomi Mountain in Guria will also receive this status and justice will be restored in this regard”, Gakharia said.
Also noted at the meeting was that Borjomi Municipality will be the first to be authorised by the government of Georgia to establish a legal entity under public law for the effective management of the Bakuriani resort.
