Dito Tsintsadze’s 2008 war feature 'Shindisi' to be screened at Santa Barbara Int'l Film Festival

The oscar-nominated film of the Georgian director Dito Tsintsadze Shindisi about the 2008 August War will be screened at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) in the United States later this month.
The Georgian National Film Centre (GNFC) announced that Shindisi will be screened at Santa Barbara on January 21, 22 and 24.
Shindisi is a village where one of the crucial battles occurred between the Russian and Georgian troops on August 11, 2008 and claimed the lives of 17 Georgian soldiers.
The 20-member cast underwent training at the base of the Georgian Defence Ministry for fighting scenes. Actors Goga Pipinashvili and Dato Bakhtadze play the leading roles in the film.

The film which premiered at the Warsaw Film Festival last year received Grand Prix, while Tsintsadze was named best director.

Georgia has selected a film titled ‘Shindisi’ to be presented for the Oscar nomination today. The film, directed by Georgian film director Dimitri Tsintsadze, is about the 2008 August War as it took place in the village of Shindisi, which is located in the vicinity of the Russia-occupied Tskhinvali region, Georgia.
Dito Tsintsadze, director of Georgia’s Oscar-contender film Shindisi, has won the best director award at the Asian World Film Festival [AWFF] held in Los Angeles, Hollywood, between 6-14 November, the Georgian National Film Centre reported earlier today.
