University applicants who are Georgian citizens and live in Azerbaijan and cannot travel to Georgia to take the national exams due to the Covid-19 restrictions will have their tuition waived by the government of Georgia, announces the Ministry of Education of Georgia.
As the ministry noted, up to 70 applicants will be beneficiaries of financial assistance.
Earlier, university applicants of this category were able to enter higher education institutions without taking national exams, but had to pay tuition. However, if they tested well, they received a scholarship.
Georgia has allocated 40 mln GEL ($14.3 mln/€13 mln) for 2020 for the reconstruction of schools in the whole country, says the Ministry of Infrastructure.
The Georgian government has taken on responsibility to provide “unprecedented support” for education in the country and invest one-fourth of the state budget for educational goals, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated earlier today during the presentation of the government initiative: Education - Way to Freedom.
University applicants living in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions will be enrolled in universities without passing the Unified National Exams, reports the Georgian Ministry of Education.
Georgian schools, universities and kindergartens will remain closed in Georgia until April 1 as a measure to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. All 668 university applicants living in Georgia's Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia have been enrolled in Abkhazian State University without exams, reports Abkhaz media outlets.
