Ruling party MP and Vice Parliament Speaker Gia Volski says that the recent poll of Transparency International Georgia (TI Georgia), which says there is a ‘clan’ controlling the court system and that the Prosecutor’s Office ‘fully or partially’ serves the interests of the Georgian Dream, is ‘incorrect and absurd.’

Volski called upon the NGO to provide concrete evidence of cases which may question the court's impartiality.

Volski says that it is not difficult to create false impressions with the help of the ‘huge resources of NGOs and certain media outlets.’

It is a fact that Georgia is among the top 20 countries for court impartiality in international ratings and precedes many European states,” Volski said.

In the survey carried out by CRRC Georgia 47 per cent of people say there is a clan in the court system. The majority of the 47 percent of respondents (88 percent) believe that the clan is supported by current government members.

45 per cent of respondents say that the court system is influenced by the ruling Geoprgian Dream party, while 40 per cent believe the system is influenced by the ‘clan.’

In the survey 48 per cent of people say that individuals are detained on political grounds in Georgia, while 38 per cent do not agree with this.

72 per cent of respondents say that the Prosecutor’s Office fully or partially serves the interests of the ruling party.

The poll was conducted between February 27 and March 18, 2020.

1,763 individuals around the country were surveyed.
