Transparency International Georgia has studied the entrepreneurial activities of 50 members of Tbilisi city council, revealing  10 officials have incompletely declared the business activities of themselves or their family members, six members have not transferred their stake in a private company to another person, while one occupies the position of director in a private company.

Transparency International explains that ‘the law prohibits entrepreneurial activity for an official’. The organisation has studied the business activities based on asset declarations and public databases, revealing that:

26 out of 50 members of the Sakrebulo have business interests, while 23 of them are members of the ruling Georgian Dream Party.

TI’s press office explains that 27 of the 50 members of Sakrebulo have additional power (more power compared to ordinary members of Tbilisi City Assembly) and receive salaries from the city budget, which prohibits them from doing business.

They are required to complete an asset declaration annually, including income of their family members as well.
