Currency exchange booths will reopen on June 8, reports local media outlet Netgazeti, citing member of the association of currency exchange booths Vakhtang Grigalashvili.

Grigalashvili said that he received this information from the National Bank of Georgia.

Currency exchange booths and other financial organisations temporarily suspended operations on March 31 in Georgia with the aim of reducing the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

In addition to exchange booths, the following kinds of organisations also closed:

  • Loan-issuing organisations
  • Credit unions
  • Payment service providers
  • Independent registers of the securities
  • Brokerage companies
  • Asset management companies
  • Stock exchanges
  • Founders of non-state pension schemes
  • Credit information bureaus

Even under these restrictions, Georgian citizens are still able to receive most financial services without interruption.
