April 2020: Property crimes most prevalent in Georgia

Crimes against property are the most commonly reported crime in Georgia, reveal statistics released today by official sources.
In total 3,493 crimes were registered in Georgia in April 2020, which is 1.5 per cent less compared to the same month of the last year, says the National Statistics Office of Georgia.
The most common crimes in April 2020 were:
- Crime against property (1,300 crimes)
- Violent crime (967 crimes)
- Crimes against life (288 crimes)
- Drug-related offences (62 crimes)
5,334 crimes were registered in Georgia in January 2020, which is 400 cases fewer compared to the same period of the last year. 1,314 of the cases have been resolved, the Georgian Interior Ministry told IPN news agency.
The number of crimes registered between January and March of 2020 has decreased by more than 10 per per cent compared to the same period of the last year.
The Georgian Interior Ministry reports that 116 individuals were charged in 2018 for various offences committed against minors.
According to statistics, a total of 35,997 crimes were reported in the country during 2016. Of these, 20,661 or 57.4 percent have been solved.
A man was shot in his car in Gldani district of Tbilisi earlier today. Police say it was a premeditated murder and the offender, allegedly, was in illegal possession of firearms.
In order to assess the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on crime rates in Georgia, non-governmental organisation the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) analysed the crime statistics of 2020 registered by the Interior Ministry throughout the country.
