Georgian Education Ministry wins EU’s research and innovation contest

The project titled ‘CAPTAIN: science is the captain’ presented by the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports has won the EU's research and innovation contest - European Researcher’s Night (The European Union’s framework program for research and innovation).

The winner will receive a prize money of €197,500 (about $214,246).

For the first time in history, the Georgian Festival of Science and Innovation will appear on the map of the ongoing festival events of the EU member states. As part of the project titled ‘’Captain: Science is Captain”, large-scale events will be held in six cities of Georgia in the fall of 2020, which will include fun, entertainment, cultural, sport and cognitive activities. The activities envisaged by the project will be multifaceted, covering astronomy, archaeology, winemaking, food technology, football, writing and history”, said the press office of the Ministry of Education.

The aim of the project is to encourage young people to choose a profession of a scientist-researcher, to strengthen the image of the scientist in society.

The development and improvement of the field of science is one of the main priorities of the Government of Georgia, as it reflects the country’s potential for sustainable economic development and efficiency”, said the Ministry of Education.

The agreement associating Georgia to Horizon 2020 was signed on April 29, 2016.

Georgian research institutes, universities and individual researchers have access to all opportunities offered by Horizon 2020 that funds diverse scientific areas, from blue sky research to demonstration projects.
