Foreign-based Georgian citizens who found themselves in difficult circumstances due to the global COVID-19 outbreak have received assistance from the Georgian government in the form of grocery vouchers.

In the Netherlands, Portugal and Ukraine, over a dozen individuals were handed vouchers as part of an ongoing joint programme by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and SPAR network of grocery stores.

In this latest round of providing support citizens outside the country, the foreign office and the store network provided the material help to two Portuguese-based families with infants and 13 individuals currently living in the Netherlands.

Several people displaced from the Donetsk district of eastern Ukraine were also selected for the vouchers, while more individuals in the district itself are expected to receive them in the coming days.

The programme is projected to involve a handout of up to 2,000 vouchers in 16 countries across the Europe as well as the United States. The coupons can be used in SPAR stores in respective states.
