All four checkpoints between Georgia and Azerbaijan will remain closed until April 20 per measures taken by Azerbaijan to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported earlier today.
The customs checkpoints are Tsiteli Khidi (the Red Bridge), Lagodekhi, Samtatskaro and Mtkvari.
Earlier, Georgia temporarily closed borders with Armenia and Azerbaijan on March 14 due to the coronavirus.
Only the Red Bridge checkpoint was opened on March 25, and was open from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
The new restrictions do not concern trucks.
Azerbaijan has had 717 cases of the coronavirus since the end of February. 44 of the 717 have recovered, while eight individuals have died.
Georgia has had 195 cases of the coronavirus. 39 of the 195 people have recovered, while two individuals have died.
Azerbaijan reported its first case of COVID-19 on February 28, 2020, while Georgia had its first case on February 26, 2020.
