Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated that the government will help people who have lost their jobs due to the state of emergency announced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

We are working on this issue and will offer them help", said Gakharia on Imedi TV’s Imedis Kvira.

Gakharia highlighted the government's initiatives that have already been put forward to help businesses or individuals who have suffered during the global coronavirus crisis and state of emergency in Georgia.

He said that the government postponed the payment of value added tax by three months (March, April, May) for those involved in tourism and the state is ready to spend 100 million GEL (about $30.44m/€27.85) to support them.

Gakharia also said that the government will cover utility fees, including sanitary service, gas and water bills for three months (March, April, May) for households which consume less than 200 kWh of electricity and 200 cubic meters of natural gas per month.

The electricity concession applies to 1.2 million households, while the natural gas concession applies to 671,000 families.
