Today Georgia is celebrating International Women’s Day.
The day is a national holiday in Georgia.
It is traditional for men and boys to buy flowers and other gifts for women on this day; women also celebrate the day with one another and exchange similar items.
International Women's Day is celebrated on 8 March every year and it commemorates the movement for women's rights.

While the first observance of Women's Day was held on 28 February 1909 in New York, 8 March was suggested by the 1910 International Women's Conference to become International Women's Day.
After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, 8 March became a national holiday there.
The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.
