The Women’s Information Centre has held a demonstration in Chorchana village, Khashuri municipality, near the occupation line of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) today.

The aim of the demonstration was to encourage society and different organisations in the country to take an interest in the plight of the locals of Chorchana village, who are living in poverty.

The village is located 100 meters away from the occupation line.

Locals of the village Chorchana used to earn money by picking flowers in fields, but now barbed wire fences may be erected in the area.

The Women’s Information Centre reports  that the forests and fields are the only source for local women to earn a living.

Russian occupying forces recently erected yellow signs on trees, and it is thought that occupants are going to put up a new border fence through the forest.

Chorchana is a small village, consisting of only 16 families. Local women pick flowers and sell them in Khashuri in order to earn a living, however the area has become too dangerous.
