Russia launches military exercises, covering territories of Georgia, Ukraine and Armenia

Russia has launched military exercises which cover the Georgian occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), Crimea and Russian military bases in Armenia, Russian Foreign Ministry official Vadim Astafiev said, RFERL writes.

The exercises are being conducted in Volgograd, Rostov, Stavropol, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Ossetia, Crimea, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Armenia, he said.

RFERL says that more than 7,000 soldiers are involved in the exercises.

The media says that 2,000 pieces of military technical equipment and more than 50 air fighters and military helicopters are being used.

Astafiev says that the exercises aim to upgrade the combat capabilities of the soldiers involved.
