Captain of the Georgian Judo team Varlam Liparteliani won gold at the Paris Grand Slam international competition yesterday.
Liparteliani, 29, who has won silver medals at Olympic and World competitions in previous years, has won the Paris Grand Slam for the third time, defeating Japanese Aaron Wolf in the final battle.
Georgia received four medals at the competition.
- Gold – Varlam Liparteliani.
- Silver – Vazha Margvelashvili.
- Bronze – Temur Nozadze.
- Bronze – Lasha Shavdatuashvili.
The Paris Grand Slam featured 570 competitors from 97 countries this year.
Georgian wrestlers scored five medals at the Paris Grand Slam 2018 tournament where they competed against hundreds of athletes from around the world over the weekend.

Georgian judoka Guram Tushishvili has won the Dusseldorf Grand Slam 2020, defeating German rival Johannes Frey in the final competition. The German town of Dusseldorf hosted Judo Grand Slam between February 21 and 23, with Georgia winning two gold, one silver and one bronze medals. Tushishvili, 25, won also won a gold medal at the 2018 World Judo Championships in 2018 and European Judo Championships in 2017.
