The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia recently held an animation contest entitled ‘Revived Paintings’ in honor of the 100th anniversary of the death of Niko Pirosmani, renowned Georgian avant-garde artist.

Students from Georgia’s secondary schools were tasked with creating  short animations based on the artist’s works. 12 of the contestants were named as winners.

You can view some of the winning contestants’ works on the Agenda.ge website.

Expected to open in March, a dual show of works by Pirosmani and Vincent Van Gogh is being prepared in  by the Georgian National Museum (GNM) network in collaboration  with the Vincent van Gogh Foundation in Arles, France.

The Georgian artist’s paintings  were  viewed by art enthusiasts in France as part of a Pirosmani exhibition at Vienna’s Albertina Museum that ended earlier this week.

The Albertina museum exhibition was on display until its conclusion on January 27 and was a great step forward toward bringing Pirosmani’s work to an international audience.

Additionally, one of Pirosmani’s works recently sold for a record-high bid at Sotheby's Auction House in November, 2018.
