The Georgian Interior Ministry announced today that it has started an investigation into the recent e-mail threats against the President of Georgia and several media outlets.
In particular, the Ministry referred to the text that has been sent to several e-mail addresses from one and the same account today.
TV Pirveli media company was among the targets. Its founder Vakhtang Tsereteli released the shot of the text on his Facebook page.
The e-mail sent from blackmirror@protonmail.com allegedly points at the recent cyber attacks on the websites of President of Georgia, courts, media and NGOs.
It reads:
We told you ahead about the huge attacks, you did not believe and ignored our warning. The answer to the question why we are doing that? You should be very well aware, show the public what we have obtained from your servers, what you did not wanted to reveal…
We will tell you directly [that] we are not [from] any party. We are not interested in either [Mikheil] Saakashvili or [Bidzina] Ivanishvili. It was just a sign of laughing at Saakashvili (I’LL BE BACK). If 500 bitcoins will not be transferred on the account that we sent in three days, we will start unveiling all the information that you had been protecting so much. This is just the beginning!”
Tsereteli said nothing has ever been kept at the TV Pirveli’s servers except from the media archive. Moreover, he noted that after the recent cyber attack, the Interior Ministry inspected their servers.
Following the cyber attacks against thousands of websites earlier this week, the Interior Ministry has launched the investigation into unauthorized access to the computer system and infringement of computer data and/or the computer system.
