Internet has been made available in the Georgian mountainous region of Pshav-Khevsureti and the ravine of Gudamakari.
The project, providing Pshav-Khevsureti and Gudamakari with Wi-Fi internet was launched in March 2019 by the Ministry of Economy, Internet Society (ISOC) and Small and Medium Telecom Operators Association of Georgia.
The project is being conducted in two stages, covering Piraketa Khevsureti and Arkhoti ravines as well as Pirikita Khevsureti, Ardoti, Ukana Pshavi and Gudamakari ravines.
A total of 76 villages and four schools will be provided with internet during the project. A fixed IP telephone line will also be installed for 50 subscribers in the region.
A similar project was completed in the region of Tusheti in 2017, providing 24 villages and four ravines with internet.
Internet was made available in Georgian village of Roshka, Khevsureti region yesterday as part of a large-scale government internetization programme. Minister Turnava said the locals are provided with free trainings on how to place information on their guesthouses on international tourist websites.
An initiative to provide 68 Georgian schools, among which are 50 regional schools, with wireless internet has been discussed at a government session today.
Georgia’s Pshav-Khevsureti and Gudamakari regions will soon be provided with high-speed internet, while over 100 villages, currently without power will be connected to the energy grid and paramedics will render healthcare services in high mountainous regions.
Georgia is continuing to develop high-speed internet infrastructure in the country's regional areas, making the internet cheaper and more accessible for the rural population.
Protected areas of some of Georgia's most picturesque provinces will be linked with trails and have brand-new tourist infrastructure in an "unprecedented" state programme of revitalising regions of the country starting next month.
