Georgia’s Pshav-Khevsureti and Gudamakari regions will soon be provided with high-speed internet, while over 100 villages, currently without power will be connected to the energy grid and paramedics will render healthcare services in high mountainous regions.
These are some of the major initiatives of the government of Georgia that the National Council for Development of Highlands of Georgia approved.
Internet penetration in Pshav-Khevsureti and Gudamakari regions will be fully covered from the Fund for Development of Highlands of Georgia.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s Ministry of Health will implement a programme of paramedics to train residents of high terrain regions in first aid to get them skilled in this vital area before emergency rescue brigades reach the destination.
The meeting of the National Council for the Development of Highlands of Georgia, which was
chaired by the Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, also discussed key components of the Strategy for the Development of the Highlands of Georgia for 2019-2023. Programmes to be implemented in the mountains of the country in 2018-2019 were also discussed, including the development of forests and tourism in forests as a niche segment.
Law of Georgia on Development of High Mountainous Regions was endorsed in 2015. Currently 1,730 settlements have been granted the status of high mountainous communities and 330,000 people benefit from fiscal incentives under the law.
