Georgian judokas claim more gold at world championship [VIDEO]

Georgian judokas Vladimer Akhalkatsi and Lasha Bekauri have won the world championship in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Akhalkatsi and Bekauri, both 19, received gold in their respective categories yesterday.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) reported that defending Junior World Champion Lasha Bekauri confirmed that he is the strongest junior in his weight division, while Vladimir Akhalkatsi who also won gold, showed that Georgia will continue to play a major role in the judo world in the years to come.

Vladimer Akhalkatsi handed a defeat to his Russian rival David Karapetyan in the under 81kg category.

Another Georgian judoka Tato Grigalashvili finished with bronze in the same weight category.

Lasha Bekauri handed a defeat to his Hungarian rival Roland Goz in the under 90kg category. 

The IJF said Bekauri "is already a regular at major international events, as he was the reigning Junior World Champion and won the Cadet world title two years ago".

The Georgian national team is comprised of nine male and three female judokas, who will be competing in the coming days.

The World Championships Junior 2019, which kicked off on October 16, will last for a couple of more days.
