22,763 abortions were registered in Georgia between 2018 and 2019, with most of them taking place in Tbilisi and western Adjara region of Georgia, IPN cites the National Disease Control Centre as saying.
14,066 abortions were made in 2018, while the figure stands at 8,697 for the first six months of 2019,” IPN reports.
86 of the 14,066 were minors in 2018 who decided to suspend pregnancy, half of the abortions were made in Tbilisi,” IPN said.
Women between 25 and 34 have addressed medical institutions most frequently for abortion.
The number of abortions reported in Georgia has slightly decreased since 2012. Official statistics released today showed the most abortions occurred in women aged 20-44.
The length of time from when a woman announces she wants an abortion to the time the termination takes place could increase from three to five days.
