First Deputy-Chairperson of the Georgian Parliament Tamar Chugoshvili will visit US with the parliament delegation on January 28.
The Georgian delegation will meet the US congressmen including Gerald Connolly and Adam Kinzinger, Co-chairs of the Georgia Caucus of the US Congress.
Meetings with the President of the International Republican Institute (IRI) Den Twining and the President of the National Endowment for Democracy, Karl Gershman are also planned during the visit.
Georgian delegation will also meet with the management of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and USAID.
Georgian lawmakers will also take part in the round table organised by German Marshall Fund and the discussion at the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies of the George Washington University.
The US House of Representatives has passed a bill which not only condemns the occupation of Georgian lands but also provides sanctions against those who violate human rights in the two Russian-occupied regions of Georgia – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).
Free trade deal with the US would mean not only recognising Georgia’s economic potential but also a political step, Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze told Imedi TV speaking from New York and assessing his first visit to the US.
The bi-partisan Georgia Support Act has been introduced to US Congress by Co-Chairmen of the Georgia Caucus Congressmen Ted Poe and Gerald Connolly on June 26. The legislation reasserts the United States’ support for Georgia’s sovereignty and opposition to the "forceful and illegal Russian invasion of Abkhazia and Tskhinivali region/South Ossetia."
The US Congress has initiated a resolution dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia.
