Two citizens of Cameroon have been detained by the border police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for trying to cross the country’s border near Georgia’s Black Sea resort town of Batumi, yesterday.
Investigators say that the detainees were trying to cross the Georgia-Turkey border aiming to enter Turkey and avoiding border control.
The offence is punishable by four to five years imprisonment.
According to the official data of Police Border, 96 citizens of different countries have been charged for attempting to and crossing the border illegally, including 15 Turkish citizens, 4 Azerbaijani, 8 Indian, 4 American, 5 Moroccan, 5 Iranian, 1 Iraqi, 1 Afghani, 1 Egyptian citizen and 8 stateless persons in June-August 2019.
