The Anaklia deep sea port does not belong to a single person, but is rather an integral part of the development of the country, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia announced today.

Gakharia said that it is not expedient when an important strategic project for the country becomes a subject of political gossip and speculation.

Anaklia project needs responsible and serious private investors for the successful implementation of the project ... which unfortunately we do not have. This is the problem of the deep-sea port of Anaklia”, Gakharia said.

Gakharia noted that the state has supported the project and will support it in the future, and that the head of the Anaklia Development Consortium and co-founder of TBC Bank Mamuka Khazaradze “has been saying many surprising things recently”.

His comment was a reference to a recent statement of Khazaradze, alleging that Minister of Infrastructure Maia Tskitishvili pressured investors to refuse to invest in the project. He also claimed there is a document which proves this fact.

Gakharia urged Khazaradze to make the document public.
