French Embassy to Georgia provides details for legal employment of Georgians in France

The Embassy of France to Georgia has provided details regarding the recent agreement between France and Georgia which will allow a certain category of Georgian citizens to receive temporary residency permits and work legally in the country.

The agreement covers both the employment of Georgians in France and French citizens in Georgia.

Young Georgian specialists, as well as graduates of French educational institutions and their branches will be able to stay in the country for work experience and then return to Georgia.

The French embassy says that the agreement includes:

  • The possibility for Georgian students, at the end of their studies [when they have already received their Master’s degrees or a certification equal to a BA degree of a French vocational educational institution] in French universities to apply for a 12-month work residency permit. The agreement also covers Georgian students who finished their studies in Georgian higher educational institutions which are partnered with French universities.
  • One-year, renewable, working permits will be available for Georgian “hired workers.”  The individuals must work in one of the 50 fields which are open to Georgian national or “other fields” - referring to the construction field, public service, restaurants, mechanic field and informatics. The maximum number of residency permits for the category of people must not be more than 500 annually.
  • The possibility for 18-35-year-old Georgian and French qualified specialists to travel to France or to Georgia to upgrade their skills. The total number of such category of people in both states is limited to 150 persons annually.
