While a major part of Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations has already taken place, locals and visitors in Tbilisi can look for more daily entertainment events in the city’s Christmas Village, to mark the Orthodox Christmas and the Old New Year dates.
Set up on First Republic Square, near Rustaveli Avenue, the location has been hosting visitors of all ages for theatre shows, music performances and more since December 28.
Troupes like the Puppet Theatre and groups like Tbilisi Big Band have been taking to the stage next to the central Christmas tree of the city to entertain their audiences, with a fair also open at stalls.

The events will continue for the next 10 days, to involve celebrations of the Orthodox Christian date for Christmas on January 7 and the second New Year’s Eve celebration in Georgia on January 13.
The latter is a custom dating from the historical era when the New Year’s Eve was marked based on the Julian calendar, before it was replaced internationally in 1582 by the current Gregorian calendar.
