Georgia hosted 424,514 tourists (+18%) and 723,160 international travellers (+14.2) in May 2019, announces the Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA).
The countries with the most significant increase were:
- Kirgizstan (+135.4%)
- Uzbekistan (+90.5%)
- Kazakhstan (+84.6%)
- China (+56.4%)
- Belarus (+45.8%)
A positive trend was maintained by visitors from the European Union:
- The United Kingdom (+48.2%)
- Sweden (+31.2%)
- Poland (+27.2%)
- Germany (+26.4%)
- France (+26%)
In January-May 2019 Georgia hosted 2,988,478 international travellers (+5.4%) and 1,655,163 tourists (+7.9%).
How did Georgia benefit from more visitors?
In January-April 2019, international tourism revenue reached $856 million, which is $66 million more compared to the same period of 2018.
Meanwhile, in 2018 international tourism revenue reached $3.2 billion, which was $518 million more compared to 2017.

A total of 677,400 Georgian resident travellers* took a trip outside of the country in the first quarter (Q1) of 2019 with most of these trips, 44.7%, being made by travellers between the ages of 31 and 50, show the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
