The de-facto leadership of one of Georgia’s Russian occupied regions of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) will close the crossing-points connecting with the rest of Georgia tomorrow.

Entrance to Tskhinvali region will be temporarily banned from 8 pm May 19 and will be lifted on 6 am May 21.

De-facto security service announced yesterday that the region is strengthening security measures on the occasion of the anniversary of a local tragedy.

  • 33 people, including women and children, died in a shooting on a route between Java and Tskhinvali on May 20, 1992, Shida Kartli information centre reports.
  • Although there was no investigation launched to find the offenders, de-facto leadership of Tskhinvali has accused ethnic Georgians since the event.
