The de-facto leadership of one of Georgia’s Russian occupied regions of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) has temporarily closed the crossing-points connecting with the rest of Georgia.

Crossing-points will be temporarily banned from 6 a.m. June 8 and will be lifted on 6 a.m. June 11.

The de-facto security service announced earlier this week that the region is strengthening security measures for its “parliamentary elections” scheduled for tomorrow, June 9.

  • Russia recognised two Georgian regions of Tskhinvali and Abkhazia as independent states after a military armed conflict with Georgia in 2008.
  • As of today, only Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru and Syria recognise the two regions as independent.
